1. Education
The education component of the program involves meeting with the family as early as the freshman year of high school. In the first one-on-one meeting, we explain in detail all the factors affecting admissions decisions and strategies for positively impacting those decisions. The student will then work with us in completing the Connect Action Plan™. This personalized plan details the steps he or she can take to achieve success in the three areas that colleges focus on for admissions acceptance: academic accomplishments, testing performance and personal characteristics displayed through extracurricular involvement. We continue to educate the family throughout the program on the specific areas most important to them, including everything from navigating the athletic recruiting process to building an activity list that displays the student’s interests and personality.
To further hone a student’s skills, Future Stars conducts a series of developmental forums. Foundation Forums focus on topics which include proven study skills, career and college major choice, and the habits of highly effective teens. Meanwhile, Admissions Forums address topics such as writing a compelling personal statement and delivering a powerful interview.
2. Personalized Coaching
A key feature of the Future Stars program is the personalized coaching component, which includes one-on-one meetings as well as unlimited phone and email support. The Future Stars counselors have demonstrated a proven ability to connect with students of all backgrounds in outlining how the choices they make in high school impact their educational and professional pursuits. For this reason, many parents have lauded the abilities of our counselors, as third-party experts, to impress upon their children the importance of preparing for college and staying on task throughout the admissions process.
Clients also benefit from Future Stars referral pool of local tutors for academic support as well as a national network of admission professionals who serve as resources for identifying opportunities to highlight each student’s unique talents and interests.
3. Application Process Management
The process management component of the program includes a personalized SAT/ACT testing schedule, continual reminders of admission steps and deadlines as well as essay proofreading. A personal program binder serves as an essential organizational tool for each student in maintaining admission documents, deadline trackers, activity lists and much more. We also coach students at our on-site computer lab while they complete their applications. This ensures that applications are completed accurately and ahead of schedule.
As we explain the admissions process to parents, many tell us that they had no idea how involved it has become. Although it is true that the college admissions process is more complicated than in the past, we guide the family through every step, reducing stress and ensuring that students present themselves in a way that garners the best options.
4. Test Preparation
A six week SAT prep class in which students learn proven success strategies that will increase their test scores is also available. In addition to attending weekly prep classes, students also take multiple practice SAT tests administered in a simulated environment at our on-site classroom. This combination of skill building and drilling will increase the student’s confidence so that when test day arrives they are prepared to achieve their personal best.
5. Guided Campus Visit Program
Visiting campuses is a necessity in discovering the right college match and motivating students to reach their academic goals. For this reason, we have created a program for those interested in a guided tour of select California colleges. We take care of the transportation, campus tour reservations, and hotel accommodations as we lead a group of students on a five day trip to visit different college campuses. And because the Campus Visit Program is led by a Future Stars counselor, the students are not just shown colleges, they are also taught how to determine which traits they personally should focus on in finding the best match college.
